The Belmont Is A Tough Race To Call

The Belmont Is A Tough Race To Call

The Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown horse racing series and it will be run on June 10 at in Elmont, New York at the Belmont Park track. This is the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes and post schedule is at 5:37 pm. The main storyline going into the race is that this makes the third time out of 12 years that there will be a different winner in all three races. Always Dreaming won the Kentucky Derby, while Cloud Computing locked up the Preakness Stakes but neither of them will compete in the Belmont.

Always Dreaming’ trainer Todd Pletcher will hold the colt out of the Belmont after a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Preakness at the Pimlico Race Track. Cloud Computing is also being held out because his owner and trainer like for him to have more of a break between races than the two weeks given between Triple Crown races. Both horses have their focuses set on the summer racing season.

Belmont Stakes Favorites

The Belmont website lists 10 horses as potential entrants in the 1.5-mile race but with these two out of the running, that means there will be new Belmont Stakes favorites and underdogs. In fact, LegalHorseBettingSites.com believes some horses that you may have considered underdogs before could now be one of the odds on Belmont favorites.

Classic Empire’s odds to win the Belmont are currently at 3-1 at Sportsbetting.ag which makes him the favorite going into the weekend of the race. This should come as no surprise as Classic Empire finished fourth on the muddy track at Churchill Downs and notched a second-place finish in the Preakness.

Horse racing betting fans should also take a close look at Lookin At Lee, Irish War Cry, and Epicharis. All three of these horses have +600 odds at Bovada sportsbook and are popular bets at all of the top sites at the moment.

Belmont Stakes Underdogs

Gormley is definitely one of the Belmont underdogs that fans should look to bet on. After a hugely disappointing effort in the Kentucky Derby (finished 18th out of 20) Gormley sat out of the Preakness to rest for the Belmont. Going into the Derby, Gormley was one of the most bet on horses in the field but the rain and track conditions clearly had an effect. Expect Gormley to be more competitive at the Belmont.

You should also take a look at Senior Investment +900, Tapwrit +900 and J Boys Echo +2500. Senior Investment impressed at the Preakness after finishing strong and ending up with the third place finish.

Some other horses whose odds are posted at the top sportsbooks include Twisted Tom +1800, Patch +2000, Multiplier +2500, Meantime +2500, and the biggest underdog in the Belmont field is Hollywood Handsome at +4000.

The gate draw and start positions will be on Wednesday, June 7 and the morning-line will be posted then. Coverage starts on NBC at 4 pm and the race again will start at 5:37.
